Park Overview
Disney's Hollywood Studios is the most ride-dense park at Walt Disney World, with a heavy concentration of headline attractions. It leans toward older kids and adults more than any other Walt Disney World park, making it an outstanding fit for a family with a 10-year-old thrill-seeker. The park is organized around themed "lands" inspired by movies and TV, with Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and Toy Story Land as the two most immersive areas.
Park size: Smallest of the four Walt Disney World parks by acreage, but packed with high-demand rides.
Typical visit length: Full day (10-12 hours recommended to see everything).
Early Theme Park Entry: 30 minutes before official opening for Disney resort guests.

Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular is a 30-minute outdoor show recreating iconic scenes from Raiders of the Lost Ark with real fire, explosions, and fight choreography. Audience members can volunteer as extras. Seats ~2,000; rarely a long wait if you arrive 15-20 minutes early.
Frozen Sing-Along retells the Frozen story with two hilarious "Royal Historians of Arendelle" narrating between musical numbers. The entire audience sings along. Your daughter will be in heaven. Shows run multiple times daily; check the schedule.

Whole family -- Chewbacca, Rey, Kylo Ren, and Stormtroopers roam the land in-character |
Rise of the Resistance is widely considered the best ride at Walt Disney World, period. It combines a trackless dark ride, a drop sequence, walk-through sets, and animatronics into an 18-minute experience. Both kids exceed the 40" requirement. The ride is prone to occasional breakdowns, so ride it early.
Smugglers Run puts you in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon in a crew of six. Pilot position is the most fun (push buttons, steer). The new Mandalorian mission (May 2026) replaces the Hondo storyline with Din Djarin and Grogu.
Savi's Workshop is a 20-minute guided ceremony where your son would build a custom lightsaber from one of four kyber crystal themes (Peace & Justice, Power & Control, Elemental Nature, Protection & Defense). Reservations are essential -- book as soon as your 60-day window opens. Price is steep at $274.99 but it is a core memory for Star Wars kids.
Droid Depot lets kids build a BB-unit or R-unit droid from parts on a conveyor belt. At $129.99 it is more accessible than lightsabers. The droids interact with elements around Galaxy's Edge.

Daughter -- colorful aliens, fun spinning, great music. Think "teacups in space." |
Slinky Dog Dash is the land's headline. It is a family coaster (no inversions, no big drops) themed as a toy roller coaster built by Andy. Smooth enough for most 7-year-olds but still satisfying for a 10-year-old. Best ridden at rope drop or via Lightning Lane -- waits can hit 90+ minutes midday.
Toy Story Mania uses 3D glasses and spring-action shooters to play carnival games. Every family member can compete for the highest score. No height requirement and the queue is indoors (air-conditioned).
Alien Swirling Saucers is a spinner set to an electronic remix of "You've Got a Friend in Me." Short ride duration (~90 seconds) but the 32" height requirement means both kids easily qualify.
Character meet-and-greets in Toy Story Land: Woody and Bo Peep near Toy Story Mania entrance; Jessie near Alien Swirling Saucers; Buzz Lightyear near Slinky Dog Dash.

Daughter and Mom -- classic musical numbers, gorgeous costumes |
Tower of Terror is the most iconic Hollywood Studios attraction. The pre-show builds incredible atmosphere (Twilight Zone theming), and the randomized drop sequences mean you never know when or how far you will fall. Both kids meet the 40" requirement. This is a must-do for the 10-year-old.
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster -- CRITICAL 2026 NOTE: The Aerosmith version closes permanently on March 2, 2026. If your trip is before March 2, ride it. If after, it will be closed until summer 2026 when it reopens as Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets. The ride hardware (launch, inversions, track) stays the same -- only the theme, preshow, and soundtrack change. The 48" height requirement remains. Your son must be at least 48" tall to ride. The Muppets version will feature Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem music and a chase across Hollywood.
Beauty and the Beast -- Live on Stage is a 25-minute condensed Broadway-style show at the Theater of the Stars (outdoor covered amphitheater). Classic songs, elaborate costumes. Your daughter will love it. Low-effort -- just show up 15 minutes early.

Walt Disney Presents is a hidden gem that most guests skip. It is an air-conditioned walkthrough museum of Walt Disney's life and career, ending with a short film about upcoming Disney projects. Good for a quiet midday break, especially for parents who appreciate Disney history. Previews of upcoming attractions are often shown here.

Foodie Parent Recommendations
- Lunch: Docking Bay 7 (best food-to-effort ratio in the park)
- Dinner: Hollywood Brown Derby (upscale, excellent food) OR Roundup Rodeo BBQ (family-friendly with legitimately good BBQ)
- Snack: Ronto Wrap at Ronto Roasters + Lunch Box Tart at Woody's Lunch Box
- Drinks: Oga's Cantina (book in advance!) + BaseLine Tap House (walk-in)
- Character dining: Hollywood & Vine for Minnie's Seasonal Dine (if daughter wants character interaction)
Fantasmic! Dining Package
Book a meal at one of five participating restaurants (Brown Derby, 50's Prime Time, Sci-Fi Dine-In, Hollywood & Vine, or Mama Melrose's) and receive a voucher for reserved seating at Fantasmic! This is the best way to guarantee good seats and combine dinner with the nighttime show. Reserved section is first-come, first-served within the section -- arrive 25+ minutes before showtime.

- For the best free seats, arrive 45-60 minutes before showtime
- The Fantasmic Dining Package guarantees reserved center-section seating
- If two shows are offered, the second show is significantly less crowded
- Sitting in the far left/right sections gives a less optimal view -- aim for center
- There is no traditional fireworks show at Hollywood Studios; Fantasmic is the nighttime event

Smallest park + most in-demand rides = highest wait times per ride at Walt Disney World |

Monstropolis construction and Animation Courtyard renovation mean parts of the park are walled off |
| Rock 'n' Roller Coaster closure |
Closed March 2 through summer 2026 -- one less thrill ride during that window |
| Limited gentle rides |
Only Toy Story Mania, Runaway Railway, and Alien Swirling Saucers have no or low height requirements |
| Less for the 7-year-old |
Fewer princess/gentle attractions compared to Magic Kingdom |

Must-Do vs Skip for This Family
Must-Do (Non-Negotiable)
| Priority |
Attraction |
Why |
| 1 |
Rise of the Resistance |
Best ride at Walt Disney World. The entire family will be blown away. |
| 2 |
Slinky Dog Dash |
Perfect family coaster -- thrilling enough for son, gentle enough for daughter |
| 3 |
Tower of Terror |
Iconic thrill ride. Son will love it. Daughter may need convincing (it is scary). |
| 4 |
Toy Story Mania |
Whole family can compete. No height requirement. Endlessly replayable. |
| 5 |
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run |
Son pilots the Millennium Falcon. Enough said. |
| 6 |
Fantasmic! |
Best nighttime show at Walt Disney World. End the day here. |
| 7 |
Frozen Sing-Along |
Daughter's highlight. Low effort (just show up). |
Strongly Recommended
| Priority |
Attraction |
Why |
| 8 |
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster |
If son is 48"+ and it is open during your visit. Biggest thrill in the park. |
| 9 |
Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular |
Son and Dad will love the action. Great midday show when ride lines are long. |
| 10 |
Star Tours |
Fun Star Wars simulator. Low wait compared to other Star Wars rides. Good re-ride. |
| 11 |
Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway |
Charming and creative. Whole family. Ride early or late to avoid peak waits. |
| 12 |
Docking Bay 7 (lunch) |
Best quick service food in the park. Eat here. |
| 13 |
Oga's Cantina |
Unique experience. Book reservation in advance. Fun for parents; kids get mocktails. |
Nice to Have
| Attraction |
Why |
| Beauty and the Beast -- Live on Stage |
Good for daughter if time permits. Easy to fit in. |
| Alien Swirling Saucers |
Fun for daughter, short ride. Do it if lines are under 20 min. |
| Roundup Rodeo BBQ |
Great themed dining if you want a sit-down meal in Toy Story Land. |
| Savi's Workshop |
Splurge for son if he is a serious Star Wars fan ($275). |
| Droid Depot |
More affordable Star Wars souvenir experience ($130). |
| Mickey Shorts Theater |
Quick, fun break. Walk in when passing by. |
| Walt Disney Presents |
Air-conditioned museum. Good for parents during a break. |
Skip or Deprioritize
| Attraction |
Why |
| Hollywood & Vine character dining |
The food is mediocre. Better character dining options exist at other parks (Chef Mickey's, Cinderella's Royal Table). |
| Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater |
Amazing theming but disappointing food. If you must, go for the experience, not the meal. |
| PizzeRizzo |
Bad pizza. Just skip. |
| Catalina Eddie's |
Forgettable pizza and salads. |
| ABC Commissary |
Edible but uninspired. Eat at Docking Bay 7 or Woody's Lunch Box instead. |
Tips & Strategy
Rope Drop Strategy
The #1 rule: Do NOT rope drop a ride you already have a Lightning Lane for. Use rope drop and Lightning Lane to cover different attractions.
Option A: Rise of the Resistance First (Recommended for this family)
- Arrive 45-60 minutes before official park opening
- If you have Early Entry (resort guests), head straight to Rise of the Resistance (Galaxy's Edge)
- After Rise, walk to Smugglers Run (should be 20-30 min wait at this point)
- Exit Galaxy's Edge and head to Slinky Dog Dash OR use your Lightning Lane Multi Pass for it
- Midday: Shows (Frozen Sing-Along, Indiana Jones, Beauty and the Beast)
- Afternoon: Tower of Terror, Toy Story Mania, Star Tours
- Evening: Fantasmic!
Option B: Toy Story Land First
- Arrive early, head straight to Slinky Dog Dash
- Then Toy Story Mania and Alien Swirling Saucers (knock out the whole land)
- Head to Galaxy's Edge for Rise of the Resistance (use Lightning Lane Single Pass if available)
- Continue with Smugglers Run
- Afternoon: Shows + Sunset Boulevard rides
- Evening: Fantasmic!
Lightning Lane Strategy
| Pass Type |
Hollywood Studios Recommendations |
Price Range |
| Lightning Lane Multi Pass |
Tier 1: Slinky Dog Dash. Tier 2: Toy Story Mania + Tower of Terror |
$25-35/person |
| Lightning Lane Single Pass |
Rise of the Resistance (worth it to avoid 90+ min wait) |
$15-25/person |
| Lightning Lane Premier Pass |
Only if money is no object. Covers everything. |
$189-429/person |
Key Multi Pass strategy: You choose 1 Tier 1 and 2 Tier 2 selections in advance. Best combo:
- Tier 1: Slinky Dog Dash (hardest to get low wait otherwise)
- Tier 2: Tower of Terror + Toy Story Mania
- Rope drop: Rise of the Resistance (since it is not on Multi Pass -- it is Single Pass only)
Galaxy's Edge Tips
| Tip |
Details |
| Book Oga's Cantina at 60 days |
Reservations open at 6:00 AM ET, 60 days before your visit. Set an alarm. They sell out fast. |
| Book Savi's Workshop at 60 days |
Same booking window. $274.99 per lightsaber. Only one builder per reservation; one guest can accompany. |
| Book Droid Depot at 60 days |
$129.99 per droid. Slightly easier to get than Savi's. |
| Pilot position on Smugglers Run |
If son wants to pilot (he will), ask to be in the front two seats when boarding. Pilots have the most interactive experience. |
| Interact with the land |
If you buy a lightsaber or droid, carry them around Galaxy's Edge -- cast members react to them in character. |
| Mobile order food |
Use the My Disney Experience app to mobile order at Docking Bay 7 and Ronto Roasters to skip the line. |
| Visit at night |
Galaxy's Edge is spectacular after dark -- the lighting transforms the land. Lower crowds in the last 2 hours. |
| Batuu etiquette |
Cast members are in character. They say "bright suns" (good morning) and "till the spire" (goodbye). Kids love this. |
General Hollywood Studios Tips
| Tip |
Details |
| Best day to visit |
Tuesdays and Wednesdays typically have the lowest crowds. Avoid weekends and any day adjacent to a holiday. |
| Rider Swap |
If daughter is too scared for Tower of Terror or Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, use Rider Swap so both parents can ride without waiting twice. Son rides with one parent; the other waits with daughter, then swaps. |
| Midday break |
Hollywood Studios gets HOT. Consider returning to your resort 12-2 PM for pool time (your wife will appreciate this), then returning for afternoon shows and Fantasmic. |
| Fantasmic 2nd show |
If two performances are offered, always pick the second. It is dramatically less crowded. |
| Mobile order everything |
Quick service lines can be 30+ minutes. Always mobile order through the app. |
| Charge your phone |
You will use the My Disney Experience app constantly. Bring a portable battery pack. |
| Construction awareness |
In early-mid 2026, portions of the park near former Muppets Courtyard will have construction walls. This does not affect any operating attractions but limits some walkways. |
