Getting Around — Resort Transportation Guide

For: Family of 4 from Newton, MA (daughter 7, son 10, foodie parents) Resort: Beach Club via Disney Vacation Club (DVC) rental Compiled: February 26, 2026

The Bottom Line

Beach Club's greatest practical advantage is not its pool or its dining — it's its location. You can walk to EPCOT in 5–10 minutes and to Hollywood Studios in 15–20 minutes. For a family visiting these two parks (likely 3 of your 5 park days), this means never waiting for a bus to those destinations, returning to the resort mid-day in minutes, and walking home from fireworks instead of standing in a 45-minute post-park bus queue. For Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom, buses take 35–50 minutes total — similar to any other resort. The transportation calculus is straightforward: Beach Club earns its premium through walk access to two parks, and the bus system handles the rest.

Walking — The #1 Beach Club Advantage

Route Time Distance Notes
Beach Club → EPCOT International Gateway 5–10 min ~0.3 mi Exit via beach path; enter between UK/France pavilions
Beach Club → Hollywood Studios 15–20 min ~0.9 mi BoardWalk path past Swan & Dolphin; slight left at the bridge
Beach Club → BoardWalk 8–10 min ~0.4 mi Lakefront path; great for evening strolls

EPCOT walk details: Exit Beach Club toward Stormalong Bay, then follow the Crescent Lake shoreline east. The International Gateway arch sits between the France and United Kingdom pavilions in World Showcase. This entrance puts you in the back of EPCOT — ideal for World Showcase, festival booths, and evening visits. To reach Future World attractions (Guardians of the Galaxy, Test Track), walk 10 more minutes through World Showcase after entry.

Hollywood Studios walk details: From the Lighthouse Pier area, head west along the lakefront path past BoardWalk, then angle toward Swan & Dolphin and continue to the Lake Hollywood entrance at Hollywood Studios' southern side. The BoardWalk shortcut through the pool area saves ~0.2 miles.

Why this matters for your family: A midday pool break at Stormalong Bay becomes effortless. Leave EPCOT at noon, be at the pool by 12:10, back at the park by 3:00. From Hollywood Studios, the 15-minute walk means no waiting for a bus in the afternoon heat with two tired kids.

FriendShip Boats — Crescent Lake Circuit

The Friendship boats run a continuous circuit around Crescent Lake, connecting EPCOT's International Gateway and Hollywood Studios via all resort docks.

Stop Resort(s) Served
EPCOT International Gateway (park entrance)
BoardWalk Promenade Pier BoardWalk Inn & Villas
Lighthouse Pier Beach Club, Beach Club Villas, Yacht Club
Swan & Dolphin Pier Walt Disney World Swan, Dolphin, Swan Reserve
Lake Hollywood Pier Hollywood Studios

Operating hours: 8:30 AM to 60 minutes after park closing. Frequency: Every 15–20 minutes. Cost: Free. Travel time end-to-end (EPCOT → Hollywood Studios): ~25 minutes including all stops.

Best use cases: Tired legs on the return from Hollywood Studios; when kids are too worn out to walk; when weather makes the walk uncomfortable. The boat back from Hollywood Studios after an evening of Galaxy's Edge is genuinely pleasant — lake views, cool air off the water, and no standing on a crowded bus.

Walking is often faster: In the morning, walking to Hollywood Studios (15–20 min) is usually faster than waiting for the boat (up to 20 min) and riding it (15–20 min). Take the boat when you want the experience or when energy is low.

Disney Bus Service

Buses are the primary transport from Beach Club to parks that aren't walkable.

Destination Direct Bus? Frequency Total Time
Magic Kingdom Yes ~20 min 35–50 min
Animal Kingdom Shared (Yacht Club, BoardWalk, Swan/Dolphin) ~20 min 35–50 min
Disney Springs Shared ~20 min 30–40 min
Typhoon Lagoon Shared ~20 min 25–35 min
Blizzard Beach Shared ~20 min 35–45 min
EPCOT Walk or Boat — no direct bus needed 5–25 min
Hollywood Studios Walk or Boat — no direct bus needed 15–25 min

Operating hours: 45 minutes before park opening through 60 minutes after park closing.

My Disney Experience app: Tap "Transportation" to see live GPS-tracked bus arrival times for most routes. Always check this before heading to the bus stop — knowing a bus arrives in 3 vs. 22 minutes changes your planning.

Park closing rush: The biggest bus pain point is post-fireworks at Magic Kingdom. Hundreds of buses compete with thousands of guests. Arriving at the bus area 20 minutes before the fireworks end or waiting inside a park restaurant until 30 minutes after the show ends are the two best strategies. Alternatively, a Minnie Van or Lyft ride eliminates the wait.

Monorail System

The monorail serves the Magic Kingdom resort area. Beach Club guests use it after arriving at the Transportation and Ticket Center (Transportation and Ticket Center) via bus.

Line Route Frequency Hours
Express Transportation and Ticket Center → Magic Kingdom (direct) 4–7 min 30 min before Magic Kingdom open to 60 min after close
Resort Loop Transportation and Ticket Center → Contemporary → Grand Floridian → Polynesian → Magic Kingdom 4–7 min Same as Express
EPCOT Transportation and Ticket Center → EPCOT 4–7 min 30 min before EPCOT open to 2 hr after close

For Beach Club guests: Take the bus to Transportation and Ticket Center, then board the Express Monorail to Magic Kingdom (3–5 minutes direct). Alternatively, walk through EPCOT to the EPCOT Monorail station and ride to Transportation and Ticket Center, then transfer — a scenic route that avoids the bus stop wait but adds 20 minutes of walking.

Scenic alternative: Ride the Resort Loop monorail at least once. It offers excellent aerial views of the Magic Kingdom resort area and deposits you at the park entrance. Great for a first-day arrival at Magic Kingdom when the experience matters more than the speed.

Monorail vs. ferry at Magic Kingdom: At rope drop, monorail queues can be longer than the ferry queue. Try the ferry at least once — it is a memorable experience and the boat view of Cinderella Castle from Seven Seas Lagoon is quintessential Walt Disney World.

Disney Skyliner

The gondola system connects EPCOT and Hollywood Studios to Caribbean Beach (hub), Riviera Resort, Pop Century, and Art of Animation resorts. Beach Club guests will likely only encounter it at the EPCOT station (adjacent to International Gateway) or Hollywood Studios.

Route Segment Time
Caribbean Beach Hub → Hollywood Studios 6 min
Caribbean Beach Hub → EPCOT 14 min
Riviera Resort → EPCOT 9 min
Pop Century / Art of Animation → Caribbean Beach 6 min

For Beach Club guests: The Skyliner is not a practical daily transport option — you already walk to both parks it serves. However, it's fun to ride for the aerial view. The EPCOT station is steps from the International Gateway, so you can board at EPCOT and exit at Hollywood Studios as an alternative to walking — though the time (transfer at Caribbean Beach + wait + ride) is usually slower than walking.

No A/C warning: Gondola cabins have ventilation vents but no air conditioning. In April heat, stationary cabins can feel very warm. Keep water on hand and avoid the Skyliner during the hottest midday hours with young children.

Minnie Vans

Disney's premium ride-share service, booked via the Lyft app. The key feature for families: 2 child car seats included, installed by a Cast Member.

Feature Detail
Base fare ~$22 flat + ~$3.75/mile
Typical on-property trip $30–$55
Operating hours 6:30 AM – 12:30 AM
Vehicle Chevrolet passenger van (seats 6)
Driver Disney Cast Member
Car seats 2 included (forward- and rear-facing)
Magic Kingdom dropoff Bus terminal — steps from park entrance (bypasses Transportation and Ticket Center)

How to book: Open Lyft app on Disney property → Enter destination → Select "Minnie Van" option (appears only on Walt Disney World property) → Confirm fare.

Best use cases for your family:

Situation Value
Post-fireworks Magic Kingdom exit Skip 30–60 min bus queue; ~$35 total
Any time car seats are needed instantly Included, no pre-booking required
Late-night park exit with exhausted 7-year-old Worth the cost
Early morning airport connection Includes car seats + Cast Member assistance

Cost vs. value: Minnie Vans cost 2–3x a standard Lyft ride. For trips requiring car seats, the math often favors Minnie Van — Uber Car Seat requires advance booking and isn't always available, while Minnie Van is on-demand on Walt Disney World property.

Uber and Lyft

Standard rideshare is available everywhere on Disney property. Useful for flexibility and cost savings when car seats aren't needed.

Park Rideshare Pickup Location
Magic Kingdom Transportation & Ticket Center (Transportation and Ticket Center) only — monorail/ferry still needed to reach park
EPCOT Near HeiHei parking lot, past bus depot
Hollywood Studios Far end of bus stop area (near stop 37) — long walk from park exit
Animal Kingdom Directly in front of park — easiest rideshare at any park

Typical cost: $15–$30 for on-property trips; $40–$55 from MCO airport.

Surge pricing warning: Expect 2–5x surge for 30–60 minutes after Magic Kingdom fireworks. Either wait it out (stay in a park restaurant) or budget for surge pricing on those nights.

Car seats: Standard Uber and Lyft do not include car seats. Uber Car Seat is available but requires advance selection and may not always be available at Disney World pickup locations. Minnie Van remains the better family choice when car seats are needed.

Tiered Recommendations

Tier 1: Non-Negotiable

  1. Walk to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios every time — never wait for a bus to these parks; it is always slower than walking
  2. Use the My Disney Experience app bus tracker — knowing the next Magic Kingdom bus arrives in 18 vs. 2 minutes is the difference between missing and catching it
  3. Board the Magic Kingdom bus 50 minutes before park opening for rope drop — it fills fast
  1. Budget 1–2 Minnie Van rides for post-fireworks Magic Kingdom exit — the bus queue after Happily Ever After is one of the most miserable Disney experiences; $35 is worth it with tired kids
  2. Take the Friendship boat at least once on a relaxed return from Hollywood Studios — kids enjoy boats, and it's a genuinely pleasant experience
  3. Ride the ferry at least once instead of the monorail at Magic Kingdom — the Seven Seas Lagoon crossing with the castle in view is iconic

Tier 3: Nice to Have

  1. Ride the Resort Monorail loop on a non-rope-drop morning for the aerial view of Grand Floridian and Polynesian
  2. Try the Disney Skyliner from EPCOT to Hollywood Studios one afternoon — the gondola aerial view is unique and your 10-year-old will likely love it
  3. Use Uber/Lyft from Animal Kingdom — it's the easiest rideshare pickup at any Disney park, and the short wait makes it a viable alternative to the shared bus
  4. Keep ponchos in your bag — transportation plans change when it rains; your 5-minute walk home from EPCOT becomes a 5-minute sprint
