Theming & Room Quality

Pros & Cons

Pros Cons
Best theming of any Value resort Standard rooms far from Skyliner/lobby

Family suites with kitchenette + 2 baths Little Mermaid rooms are a long walk
Recently refreshed rooms (2025-26) No table-service dining
Zero-entry pool No pool bar

Pros & Cons

Pros Cons
Skyliner access (huge advantage) No family suites

Best for: Couples or small families who want the Skyliner advantage and freshly renovated rooms without paying for AoA suite prices. Best overall Value resort for most families in 2026, but the lack of pool amenities is a drawback for pool lovers.

Rating A- — Excellent pool complex. Two slides, hot tub, pool bar, zero entry, and kids water play area. Banana Cabana is a proper pool bar with cocktails and food. The only thing keeping it from an A is that it's not quite as impressive as Coronado's Dig Site. Wife would be very happy here.

Proximity & Transportation

Dining

Theming & Room Quality

Pros & Cons

Pros Cons
Best Skyliner location — hub station, no transfers Very large resort, long walks from some villages
Two water slides + hot tub + pool bar Some rooms far from main amenities

Sebastian's Bistro for foodie parents Can feel spread out and impersonal
5th sleeper Little Mermaid rooms Standard rooms aren't as new/fresh as Pop Century
Larger rooms (340 sq ft)
Best food court of any Moderate

Best for: Families who want the Skyliner + pool combo. This is likely the best overall choice for your family — Skyliner access, excellent pool with slides/hot tub/bar for wife, 5th sleeper Mermaid rooms for daughter, and solid dining options for foodie parents.

Pool Assessment

Feature Details

Volleyball Yes — sand court

Rating A — Best pool complex of any Moderate resort and arguably top 5 at Walt Disney World. The Dig Site is spectacular — massive pool, 123-ft slide, largest hot tubs on property, full food/bar service, and tons of kid activities. Wife's best pool option outside Deluxe tier.

Proximity & Transportation

Dining

Best dining of any Moderate resort. Toledo alone is worth the stay for foodies.

Theming & Room Quality

Pros & Cons

Pros Cons
Best pool at any Moderate (Dig Site) Bus-only transportation
Best dining at any Moderate (Toledo, Three Bridges) Convention hotel = mixed crowd
Gran Destino Tower = largest Moderate rooms Village rooms are older and spread out
Largest hot tubs at Walt Disney World Tower rooms push toward Deluxe pricing
123-ft water slide Not as kid-themed as other resorts
Nightly campfire + outdoor movies Large, sprawling property
Beautiful lakeside setting No Skyliner

Best for: Foodie parents who prioritize pool and dining over park transportation. If wife wants the best pool and parents want excellent on-site restaurants, this is the pick. The trade-off is bus-only transportation (no Skyliner). Gran Destino Tower rooms feel almost Deluxe-level.

Fort Wilderness Cabins {#fort-wilderness-cabins}

Theme: Rustic American wilderness — 750 acres of pine and cypress forest. Log cabin-style accommodations. Now a Disney Vacation Club (Disney Vacation Club (DVC)) property.

Room Types & Capacity

Room Type Size Beds Max Guests Kitchen
1-Bedroom Cabin 504 sq ft 1 Queen + 1 sleeper sofa + 1 bunk bed 6 Full kitchen

Note: Fort Wilderness Cabins are now DVC properties. Cash rates are available but limited and expensive. This is technically classified as a Deluxe Villa, not a true Moderate, but is included here as it's often compared to Moderates.

2026 Pricing

Season Nightly Rate
Value (Jan-Feb) $555-$614
Spring $738-$739
Summer $564-$638
Fall $600-$723

Proximity & Transportation

Dining

Theming & Room Quality

Pros & Cons

Pros Cons
Full kitchen — save on meals Very expensive (Deluxe pricing)
Brand new cabins (opened 2024) Huge resort, internal transit needed
504 sq ft — most space of any option Bus-only to most parks
Hoop-Dee-Doo dinner show on-site Remote feel — far from "Disney action"
Boat to Magic Kingdom Getting to/from parks takes longer
Nature setting, campfire activities DVC property, cash availability limited
Sleeps 6 with bunk beds (kids love them) No table-service restaurant (Trail's End is Quick Service now)

Best for: Families who want space, a full kitchen, and a unique "camping at Disney" experience. The Hoop-Dee-Doo show is incredible for kids. However, the cost is Deluxe-level and the remote location adds transit time. Not the best fit if pool time and park proximity are priorities.

Port Orleans - French Quarter {#port-orleans-french-quarter}

Theme: New Orleans French Quarter — wrought-iron balconies, cobblestone streets, Mardi Gras colors, jazz atmosphere.

Room Types & Capacity

Proximity & Transportation

Dining

The beignets are a destination unto themselves.

Theming & Room Quality

Pros & Cons

Pros Cons

Freshly refurbished rooms (2024-25) Smallest pool complex of the Moderates

Pool has slide, hot tub, and bar Fewer dining options than Coronado
Can use Riverside's pools too

Best for: Couples or smaller families who love New Orleans charm and want a compact, walkable resort with boat access to Disney Springs. Less ideal for kids compared to other Moderates, but the beignets and atmosphere are wonderful. Foodie parents would enjoy the vibe.

Port Orleans - Riverside {#port-orleans-riverside}

Theme: Antebellum South — Magnolia Bend (plantation mansions) and Alligator Bayou (rustic bayou cottages) along the Sassagoula River.

Room Types & Capacity

Room Type Size Beds Max Guests Low Season High Season

Royal Guest Rooms — Princess Dream for Your Daughter

The Royal Guest Rooms are the ONLY princess-themed guest rooms at Walt Disney World. Located exclusively in building 95 (Magnolia Bend), they feature:

For a 7-year-old princess-obsessed daughter, these rooms are magical. The price premium over a standard room is only ~$85-95/night — a relatively small upcharge for a significant experience upgrade.

Hot tub Yes — jacuzzi adjacent to main pool
Pool bar Limited — no dedicated pool bar (snacks available)

Quiet pools 2 additional pools in Magnolia Bend
Rating B+ — Larger and more elaborate than French Quarter. The 95-ft slide is fun and family-friendly. Nice hot tub. The 3.5-acre Ol' Man Island setting is charming with waterfalls. No dedicated pool bar is the main drawback. Can also use French Quarter's pool.

Proximity & Transportation

Dining

Theming & Room Quality

Pros & Cons

Pros Cons
Royal Guest Rooms — only princess rooms at Walt Disney World Larger resort, longer walks
5th sleeper rooms available No Skyliner
Boat to Disney Springs Bus-only to theme parks

Beautiful, peaceful grounds Dining is good but not great
Boatwright's table-service + Yehaa Bob Royal Rooms same size as standard

Pool Rankings {#pool-rankings}

Since wife loves pool time, here's a definitive ranking of all Value and Moderate pools:

Rank Resort Rating Key Features Wife Appeal
1 Coronado Springs (Dig Site) A 123-ft slide, largest Walt Disney World hot tubs, pool bar with food, volleyball, campfire, kids playground Best — she could spend a full day here
2 Caribbean Beach (Fuentes del Morro) A- Two slides (102-ft), hot tub, Banana Cabana pool bar, zero entry, kids splash area Excellent — plus Skyliner access
3 Port Orleans Riverside (Ol' Man Island) B+ 95-ft slide, hot tub, 3.5-acre setting with waterfalls Good — charming but no pool bar
4 Fort Wilderness (Meadow) B+ 67-ft slide, hot tub, zero entry, splash zone, being expanded Good — plus full kitchen for snacks
5 Art of Animation (Big Blue) B+ Largest Walt Disney World pool, zero entry, underwater music, great theming Good for kids but no slides/hot tub
6 Port Orleans FQ (Doubloon Lagoon) B 51-ft slide, hot tub, Mardi Grogs pool bar Decent — small but has the essentials
7 All-Star Music (Calypso) C+ Guitar-shaped, pool bar Basic — no slides or hot tub
8 Pop Century (Hippy Dippy) C+ Three themed pools Basic — no slides or hot tub
9 All-Star Movies (Fantasia) C Two themed pools Basic
10 All-Star Sports (Surfboard Bay) C- Most basic pools, main pool closed early 2026 Skip

Bottom line for the wife: If pool is truly critical, the choice is between Coronado Springs (best pool, best dining, bus-only) and Caribbean Beach (great pool, Skyliner access). Both are excellent — it depends on whether Skyliner transportation or the absolute best pool/dining wins.

Recommendations for Your Family {#recommendations}

Family Profile Recap

Top 3 Recommendations

1. Caribbean Beach Resort — Preferred or 5th Sleeper Room

Why: Best all-around pick. Skyliner hub (fastest park access), excellent pool with 2 slides + hot tub + pool bar for wife, Sebastian's Bistro for foodie parents, 5th sleeper Mermaid-themed rooms for daughter. Largest rooms of any standard Moderate (340 sq ft).

Budget: ~$370-500/night depending on season and room type.

2. Port Orleans Riverside — Royal Guest Room

Why: The Royal Guest Rooms will make your daughter's trip. Only princess-themed rooms at Walt Disney World. 95-ft water slide + hot tub at Ol' Man Island. Boat to Disney Springs. Can walk to French Quarter for beignets. Boatwright's + Yehaa Bob for evening entertainment. Beautiful grounds.

Budget: ~$398-570/night for Royal Rooms.

3. Coronado Springs — Gran Destino Tower

Why: Best pool (Dig Site) and best dining (Toledo, Three Bridges) of any Moderate. Largest rooms (375 sq ft). The tower feels almost Deluxe-level. Toledo is legitimately excellent for foodie parents. Huge hot tubs for wife. 123-ft water slide for son.

Trade-off: Bus-only transportation. No princess theming. Convention hotel feel on weekdays.

Budget: ~$376-660/night for tower rooms.

Value Pick (if saving for in-park spending)

Art of Animation — Family Suite with Skyliner access, best Value theming, Little Mermaid section for daughter. But at $555-900+/night for suites, you're paying Moderate prices anyway. The standard Little Mermaid rooms ($251-428/night) are a true value play but 260 sq ft is tight for a family of 4, the rooms are far from the Skyliner, and there are no pool slides or hot tubs.

What to Skip

For your family, the All-Star resorts offer no compelling reason to book. The savings (~$150-200/night vs. Moderate) come at the cost of pool quality, room size, transportation options, and dining — all things your family values.
