New England theming feels like home (Newton!) No monorail access
Walkable to tons of dining at BoardWalk/EPCOT Not close to Magic Kingdom
Recently refurbished pool (2025) Rooms are nice but not the newest

Alice in Wonderland splash pad is great for your daughter. However, it lacks the "water park" feel of Stormalong Bay -- no lazy river, smaller scale. It is elegant rather than exciting.

Proximity to Parks & Transportation

Dining On-Site (Foodie Rating: A++)

Moana-themed rooms

Best for: Families who want immersive theming, monorail convenience, and the "Disney magic" feel. The tropical vibe is perfect for your wife's vacation mindset. 'Ohana character breakfast with Lilo & Stitch will delight both kids.

Pool Bar Yes Standard
Lazy River No Missing

Pool verdict: Adequate but the weakest pool situation among EPCOT-area Deluxe/Deluxe-adjacent resorts. You cannot use Stormalong Bay (Beach/Yacht Club guests only). The pools are fine but forgettable. Not a draw for your pool-loving wife.

Pros & Cons

Pros Cons
CHEAPEST on-site Deluxe-equivalent ($200-$400) No Disney Dining Plan
Marriott Bonvoy points (earn and redeem!) Pools are weakest in the area

Recommendations for Your Family

Based on your family profile (foodie parents, 7yo princess fan, 10yo thrill seeker, wife loves pool, Newton MA):

Tier 1: Top Picks

Rank Resort Why
#1 Beach Club or Yacht Club Stormalong Bay is THE reason. Your wife gets the best pool at Walt Disney World with lazy river, sand beach, and cabanas. Kids get massive slides. Walk to EPCOT (foodie paradise) in 5 minutes. Walk to Hollywood Studios (thrill rides for your 10yo). New England theme feels like home. Yacht Club is slightly cheaper for the same pool.
#2 Polynesian Village Immersive tropical theming your whole family will love. Monorail to Magic Kingdom for princess time. Lava Pool is beautiful. 'Ohana is a must-do character meal. Trader Sam's for parents' night out. Moana-themed rooms. The "vacation feel" is unmatched.
#3 Grand Floridian The luxury play. Walk to Magic Kingdom for princess experiences. 1900 Park Fare has CINDERELLA character dining. Victoria & Albert's for the ultimate foodie splurge. Elegant pool with cabanas. Recently renovated rooms. Largest rooms. If budget allows, this is the prestige pick.

Tier 2: Excellent Alternatives

Rank Resort Why
#4 Animal Kingdom Lodge Best resort dining (Jiko, Boma, Sanaa). Animals from your balcony. Best value Deluxe ($508 starting). Unique and educational for kids. Trade-off: bus-only, far from Magic Kingdom, smallest rooms.
#5 Contemporary Resort Walk to Magic Kingdom + monorail. California Grill fireworks. Chef Mickey's for kids. Steakhouse 71 for foodies. Large rooms. Trade-off: pool is mediocre, less magical theming.
#6 Swan & Dolphin Best value on-property ($200-$400). Marriott Bonvoy points. Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina for foodies. Walk to EPCOT. Trade-off: pool is weakest, no Disney Dining Plan, hotel feels corporate.

Tier 3: Solid but Niche

Rank Resort Why
#7 BoardWalk Inn Great location, Flying Fish for dinner, fun nightlife. But pool is mediocre and it lacks character dining for kids. Better for adults.
#8 Wilderness Lodge Best value Deluxe, beautiful theming, Snow White character dining. But bus-only transport, boat dock closed through April 2026, smallest rooms. Great for nature lovers on a budget.

The "Have It All" Strategy

If budget permits, consider a split stay: 1. Beach/Yacht Club (3-4 nights) -- Pool time, walk to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, foodie dinners at World Showcase 2. Grand Floridian or Polynesian (2-3 nights) -- Monorail to Magic Kingdom, princess character dining, fireworks from the beach/pool

This maximizes pool time, park access, dining variety, and the overall Disney magic for every family member.

Money-Saving Approach

  1. Use an authorized Disney travel agent (free) to monitor for discounts
  2. Book Beach Club Villas via DVC point rental ($300-$350/night vs. $638+ rack rate) -- same Stormalong Bay access
  3. Combine with free kids' dining plan (2026)
  4. Travel during Value season (Jan 20 - Feb 4 or Aug 14 - Sep 10) for lowest rates
  5. Consider Swan & Dolphin for 1-2 nights via Marriott points, then a Disney Deluxe for the rest

Research compiled from multiple sources including MouseSavers.com, Disney Tourist Blog, Disney Food Blog, TripAdvisor, Touring Plans, Undercover Tourist, The Points Guy, and official Disney and Marriott websites. All pricing is 2026 rack rates including 12.5% tax for Disney-owned resorts unless otherwise noted. Rates subject to change.
