World Cup 2026 Game Planning
Tickets & Resale Strategy
We have 4 tickets for each of Croatia’s 3 group stage games. This analysis covers which game is easiest to sell and which would net the most proceeds.
Resale Value Ranking
1. England vs. Croatia (Dallas, June 17) – HIGHEST VALUE
| Metric | Details |
|---|---|
| Face value | Cat 1: $700 / Cat 2: $500 / Cat 3: $265 |
| Current resale average | ~$1,824 per ticket |
| Resale range | $568 - $2,185+ |
| Markup | 3x-35x face value depending on category |
| Our tickets | 2x Category 2 ($500 face value) – selling 2, Marina+Luka using the other 2 |
| Cat 2 resale estimate | $800-$1,500 per ticket |
| 2 tickets at Cat 2 avg | ~$2,400 gross / ~$2,040 net (after 15% seller fee) |
Why it commands the most:
- England has one of the world’s largest and most passionate fanbases with a massive US diaspora
- England vs. Croatia is a marquee matchup (2018 WC semifinal rematch)
- 80k-seat AT&T Stadium in a major US city
- English fans travel in huge numbers and pay premium prices
- One of the most heavily marked-up fixtures across the entire group stage
2. Croatia vs. Ghana (Philadelphia, June 27) – MODERATE
| Metric | Details |
|---|---|
| Face value | Cat 1: $500 / Cat 2: $400 / Cat 3: $180 |
| Resale estimate | Moderate – neither team has a massive US fanbase |
Factors:
- Final group game could be decisive (higher drama = higher demand closer to the date)
- Saturday game in a major East Coast city – casual fans more likely to buy
- 69k-seat stadium, good capacity
- Philadelphia’s America 250 celebrations may bring extra visitors to the city
3. Panama vs. Croatia (Toronto, June 23) – LOWEST
| Metric | Details |
|---|---|
| Face value | Cat 1: ~$450 / Cat 2: ~$380 / Cat 3: ~$140 |
| Resale estimate | Lowest demand – smallest fanbases of any of the three matchups |
Factors:
- Panama and Croatia are the two smallest fanbases in the group
- Toronto’s Croatian community may drive some local demand
- BMO Field is the smallest venue (~30k) – scarcity could help prices somewhat
- Tuesday evening game limits casual attendance
- International destination adds friction for US-based buyers
Summary: Easiest to Sell vs. Most Proceeds
| Easiest to Sell | Most Proceeds | |
|---|---|---|
| Winner | England vs. Croatia (Dallas) | England vs. Croatia (Dallas) |
| Why | Massive English fanbase, global interest, marquee matchup – buyers will come to you | Current resale avg ~$1,824/ticket. 4 tickets could gross ~$7,300, net ~$6,200 |
The England match is in a different league of demand compared to Panama or Ghana.

Platform Restrictions
FIFA’s Resale Marketplace is the ONLY legitimate channel for selling World Cup 2026 tickets.
| Platform | Can you sell here? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| FIFA Resale Marketplace | Yes | Official platform – tickets digitally transferred within FIFA’s system |
| StubHub | No | FIFA Terms of Use prohibit third-party resale; tickets are digitally locked |
| SeatGeek | No | Same – listings on these sites are speculative or fraudulent |
| VividSeats | No | Same |
| Viagogo | No | FIFA filed criminal complaints against Viagogo in past tournaments |
| Private sale | No | Risk of ticket cancellation without refund |
The 6,500+ “listings” visible on aggregator sites like SeatPick are pulling from third-party platforms where sellers may not actually possess transferable tickets. The only safe transaction for both buyer and seller is through FIFA’s platform.
Marketplace Mechanics
| Step | Details |
|---|---|
| 1. Log in | Access your FIFA ticketing account at fifa.com/tickets |
| 2. Select tickets | Choose “RESELL/EXCHANGE” -> select the tickets to list |
| 3. Set price | Enter your asking price (uncapped in US/Canada) |
| 4. Ticket held by FIFA | While listed, the ticket is removed from your account and held by FIFA |
| 5. Buyer purchases | FIFA reissues the ticket digitally into the buyer’s FIFA account |
| 6. Payment | Seller receives sale price minus 15% fee (exact settlement timeline not documented) |
Price changes: You cannot edit a listing price in-place. You must withdraw the listing and relist at the new price.
Withdrawal: You can withdraw anytime, except during brief moments when a buyer is mid-checkout. FIFA advises withdrawing at least 1 full day before kickoff – last-minute withdrawals can fail due to processing delays.
If unsold: Listings are auto-pulled 1 hour before kickoff. The ticket reverts to your account for personal use.
Fee Comparison
| Platform | Seller Fee | Buyer Fee | Total | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FIFA Resale | 15% | 15% | 30% | Only legitimate option for WC 2026 |
| StubHub | 10-15% | 18-30% | ~30-40% | Cannot use for WC tickets |
| SeatGeek | 5-10% | 18-30% | ~25-35% | Cannot use for WC tickets |
FIFA’s 30% total take is comparable to secondary market norms but higher than SeatGeek’s seller-side fee. Moot point since FIFA is the only option.
Tax Implications
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| 1099-K | FIFA Ticketing may send a Form 1099-K if resale proceeds exceed IRS reporting thresholds |
| Tax responsibility | Seller is responsible for reporting resale income – FIFA does not withhold taxes |
| Gain calculation | Taxable gain = sale price - face value paid - seller fee. If you sell 2 Cat 2 tickets at $1,200 each: gain = ($2,400 - $1,000 - $360) = $1,040 |
| Record keeping | Save your original purchase confirmation ($500/ticket face value) for tax records |
Historical Pricing Trends
2022 Qatar – England Group Stage Resale
| Category | Face Value (2022) | Resale Examples | Markup |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cat 3 | QAR 250 (~$69) | $10,217 on StubHub | ~140x |
| Cat 1 | QAR 800 (~$220) | Not individually documented | Extreme |
| Cat 2 | QAR 600 (~$165) | Not individually documented | Extreme |
England group stage tickets were listed at $10,000+ on unauthorized platforms (StubHub, Viagogo, Ticombo). However, 2022 resale was mostly on unauthorized platforms – FIFA’s official resale fee was only 5% (vs 15% in 2026) and had no price caps.
2026 vs 2022 – Key Differences
| Factor | 2022 Qatar | 2026 USA/Canada |
|---|---|---|
| Official resale fee | 5% | 15% seller + 15% buyer |
| Price caps | Varied | Uncapped (US/Canada), face value only (Mexico) |
| Face values | Cat 2 group: ~$165 | Cat 2 group: $500 |
| Resale platform | FIFA official + widespread unauthorized | FIFA-only (tickets digitally locked) |
| England demand | Extreme – among most in-demand teams | Same or higher – 2018 semifinal rematch narrative |
General Tournament Pattern
| Phase | Pattern |
|---|---|
| Months before | Early bird buyers plan travel + tickets together. Moderate pricing. |
| Weeks before | FOMO kicks in. Prices often rise. |
| Days before | Last-minute spike possible but risky – may not sell. |
| Knockout rounds | Significant price escalation (QF $400+, SF $700+, Final $2,400+ in 2022). |
Key takeaway: Listing early (April) captures the planning-ahead crowd at solid prices. Waiting until June is riskier but could yield more if demand spikes. For a guaranteed sale at a good price, April-May is the sweet spot.

Resale Windows & Strategy Per Match
Match 1: England vs Croatia – Dallas, Wed Jun 17
| Window | Dates | Strategy |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplace reopens | Apr 2 | Can list immediately. Early listers capture fans who plan ahead. |
| Peak demand wave 1 | Apr-May | English fans booking travel + tickets together. Strong demand. |
| Peak demand wave 2 | Late May-Jun | Last-minute buyers, FOMO kicks in. Prices may spike. |
| Final window | Jun 16 (day before) | Last-chance buyers will pay almost anything. But risk of not selling. |
| Auto-pull | Jun 17, 3:00 PM ET | 1 hour before kickoff – listing removed if unsold. |
Recommendation: This is the easiest and most valuable sell. List on April 2 at a premium price (start at ~$2,000+/ticket). If no bites in 2-3 weeks, adjust down. England demand is so high these will move. Don’t wait until the last minute – early buyers at premium prices are better than gambling on late spikes.
Expected net (4 tickets): $5,000-$7,500 after 15% fee.
Match 2: Panama vs Croatia – Toronto, Tue Jun 23
| Window | Dates | Strategy |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplace reopens | Apr 2 | Can list, but low early demand for this matchup. |
| Moderate interest | May-Jun | Croatian diaspora in Toronto may drive some demand. |
| Group standings impact | After Jun 17 | If Croatia beats England on Jun 17, this match may matter less (Croatia comfortable). If Croatia loses, this becomes a must-win – demand rises. |
| Final window | Jun 22 (day before) | Tuesday evening game limits last-minute casual buyers. |
| Auto-pull | Jun 23, 6:00 PM ET | 1 hour before kickoff. |
Recommendation: Hardest to sell at a premium. If Zadar family is coming, this is the game for them (Air Transat nonstop Zagreb->Toronto). Consider keeping these for extended family. If selling, list on April 2 but set realistic expectations – face value to modest markup. Prices may move if Croatia’s group situation makes this a pivotal match.
Expected net (4 tickets): Face value to modest profit. Lower ceiling than others.
Strategic note: Don’t decide until after Jun 17. If Croatia loses to England, this game becomes a must-win and demand goes up.
Match 3: Croatia vs Ghana – Philadelphia, Sat Jun 27
| Window | Dates | Strategy |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplace reopens | Apr 2 | Can list. Saturday games attract more casual buyers. |
| Steady demand | Apr-May | Philadelphia is a major market. Saturday + 5 PM = family-friendly. |
| Group standings impact | After Jun 23 | If Croatia needs a result to advance, demand spikes significantly. If Croatia is already through, it becomes less urgent (but still a WC match). |
| America 250 boost | Late Jun | Philly will be buzzing with 250th anniversary visitors – extra foot traffic and interest. |
| Final window | Jun 26 (day before) | Saturday game = more last-minute walk-up demand than weekday games. |
| Auto-pull | Jun 27, 4:00 PM ET | 1 hour before kickoff. |
Recommendation: If selling extra tickets (e.g., you attend with 2 and sell 2), list by mid-May. If selling all 4, wait until after Jun 23 – if Croatia’s fate depends on this match, prices will jump.
Expected net (4 tickets): Moderate – above face value, well below Dallas.
Strategic note: Final group game drama is unpredictable. If Croatia enters needing a win, this ticket’s value could surge in the last 3 days.
Match 4: 1E vs 3A/B/C/D/F (Match 74) – Gillette, Mon Jun 29
| Window | Dates | Strategy |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplace reopens | Apr 2 | Can list, but opponent is unknown. Buyers are speculating. |
| Speculative demand | Apr-May | Smart buyers know 1E is likely Germany. Some will buy early at lower prices betting on a good matchup. |
| Germany confirmed as 1E | ~Jun 25 | Group E final matches. Once Germany is confirmed, demand anchors to “Germany knockout match.” |
| Opponent revealed | Jun 27 | All groups end. Bracket locks in. Exact opponent known. |
| Demand spike window | Jun 27-28 | 48-hour window where demand will spike or drop depending on opponent. Italy/Korea/Scotland -> spike. Qatar/Tunisia -> flat. |
| Final window | Jun 28 (day before) | Last-chance buyers – but only 1-2 days to react after opponent is known. |
| Auto-pull | Jun 29, 3:30 PM ET | 1 hour before kickoff. |
Recommendation: This is 30 minutes from your house. Strong candidate to attend. If selling, the unique challenge is that demand depends on an opponent you won’t know until 2 days before. Two strategies:
- Sell early (April): Price based on “likely Germany” speculation. You’ll get a decent price but not the full premium of a confirmed marquee matchup.
- Sell late (Jun 27-28): Wait for opponent reveal. If it’s Italy/Korea/Scotland, list immediately at a high premium – you have a 48-hour window of intense demand. If it’s Qatar/Tunisia, you may wish you’d sold earlier.
Expected net (4 tickets): Highly variable – $3,000-$8,000+ depending on opponent.
